Project design for the ADB Crop Diversification and Commercialization Project in Nepal

PPTA 7331-NEP which is aimed at preparing the CDCP for ADB funding has progressed through to the Draft Final Report stage.

The intended impact of the project to be designed is increased marketing surplus and domestic trade due to improved efficiency in production, postharvest, processing, and marketing of diversified high value crops. The proposed project is envisaged to contribute to increased employment and improved food security among poor, socially, and geographically excluded farmers in 14 project districts in the Far Western Development Region (FWDR) and the Mid Western Development Region (MWDR). An incremental area of about 22,000 ha will be brought under diversified crop production, with technology transfer support to attain significant increases in crop yields, and consequently, substantial increase in volume of high-value crops and processed products in the local and national markets and for export.
